"The eXtreme Universe" Stellarium X-ray Sky Planetarium Show

We are creating a digital planetarium show that will show students the difference between the optical light in the sky we see with our eyes and the X-ray sky. Using the Stellarium software, the educator can display the optical sky, the X-ray sky, or both simultaneously. They can also zoom in on various astronomical objects and display side-by-side images of what they look like in optical and X-rays. The planetarium show can be projected in a dome, on a flat screen, or simply viewed on a computer monitor.

The planetarium show will have an accompanying Educators Guide with activities which will teach students about X-rays, what kinds of objects emit them, and how we observe them.

The planetarium show is in alpha-development and should be ready for wide-range use in Fall 2007.
